OLONGAPO CITY – Four Chinese were given with life imprisonment term by the Olongapo City Regional Trial Court Branch 74 on Friday after being involved in the operation of a floating shabu laboratory in the town of Subic.
Win Fai Lo, Shu Fook Leung, Kam Wah Kwok and Kwok Tung Chan were all convicted of being involved in the operation of a 50-meter vessel that was found near the shores of Barangay Calapandayan.
The four were arrested on July 11, 2016 as the police seized a total of 467.8 grams of shabu, including a hydrogenator that was allegedly used in the manufacturing of the illegal drug. Part of their term was the payment of P5 million each for the possession of illegal drugs.
The court, however, dismissed the charges of manufacturing illegal drugs due to “failure of the prosecution to prove their guilt beyond reasonable doubt.”
On July 11, 2016, the four Hong Kong nationals were arrested aboard the floating shabu laboratory near the shores of Barangay Calapandayan in the town of Subic. A total of 470 grams of illegal drugs and a hydrogenator was found on board the vessel.
Then PNP Director General Ronald Dela Rosa led the confiscation of the fishing vessel that allegedly served as a “floating shabu laboratory” and was being utilized to transport shipments of methamphetamine hydrochloride in the country.
The PNP arrested the four Hong Kong Chinese who were inside the vessel during the drug bust operation. The Bureau of Immigration (BI) pointed out that three of them were “new” to the country while one is considered the captain. BI added that among them is the chemist of the “floating shabu lab.”
BI’s Alien Control Officer Richard Chua said that these foreigners entered the country thru NAIA on a Cathay Pacific airplane from Hong Kong.
Dela Rosa said that in just two days of being ported here, the vessel already created shabu. He added that the drug shipment maybe dropped off thru sea, and then picked up by Filipinos in other ports. It could possibly go to Ilocos to Cagayan and Ilocos to Pangasinan from Subic, he said.
